The highest density of oil nodes can be found in underwater caves, it's possible to get large amounts of oil from just 1 underwater cave. One such cluster can be found at 10.2 latitude and 25.5 longitude, and yields 300-500 oil depending on harvesting method. While relatively rare, large clusters of oil nodes can also be found in various ocean floor locations. To effectively mine oil nodes in the ocean it's a good idea to tame an underwater dinosaur, such as a powerful Megalodon, or a fast and nimble Ichthyosaurus.Ī more effective method is to tame a Dunkleosteus, which can gather oil nodes by itself while defending against Plesiosaur. Oil nodes in the ocean are easy to spot as they release a dark stream of oil which floats upwards. Oil nodes can be found all around the map in the oceans. See the interactive Resource Maps for all occurrences in the official maps as well as some Mod maps. It is also possible to obtain Oil by harvesting dead Tek Creatures. There are 3 main environments where oil nodes spawn: the ocean, Underwater caves and along the beach of the Snow Biome. Oil (Tusoteuthis) is gathered from the inventory of dead Tusoteuthis and slowly accumulates in the inventory of a tamed Tusoteuthis or Basilosaurus. The Stone Pick yields 0-1 oil per oil node, while the Metal Pick yields 0-10 oil per oil node.īesides using tools it is also possible to use a Ankylosaurus or Dunkleosteus to mine oil very effectively. Oil can be mined with either a Stone Pick or a Metal Pick in the ocean. Tusoteuthis and Basilosaurus produce Oil (Tusoteuthis) passively in their inventory.Hesperornis Egg can be turned into Oil in the Cooking Pot or Industrial Cooker.Dung Beetle passively produce Oil and Fertilizer with Feces while on wander.Oil can be produced in the following ways:
